The Best Weddings Aren’t About the Flowers: They’re About You

There’s a moment at every wedding—right around golden hour, when the nerves settle and the music floats through the air—when I get to witness something real. Not staged, not curated, but honest. It’s the couple holding hands behind the scenes, or laughing as they mess up their vows, or sneaking away for five quiet minutes just to breathe it all in.

That’s the heart of it.

And in those moments, I’m reminded: the quality of a wedding is never measured by how extravagant it looks. It’s measured by how deeply it’s felt.

"The quality of your wedding isn’t about the material aspects - the volume of florals, which bakery your cake is from, or the kind of dance floor you had. It is truly about your intenion and the love you share. My favorite clients ever had such little care about the material details and invested their energy in the agenda, the time they spent alone with each other, well thoughtout and meaningful vows, dancing with guests, and eternalizing all the memories with photos. Be present. Be YOU."

Let Go of the Pressure to Perform

We live in a world that romanticizes the Pinterest-perfect wedding. Grand installations. Designer gowns. Cakes so pretty they could be sculptures. And while there’s nothing wrong with beautiful things (I love capturing the details you do care about), they don’t define the day.

The truth is, the most unforgettable weddings I’ve ever documented weren’t built around things. They were built around people.

The best celebrations I’ve witnessed—hands down—were the ones where couples were fully present, where they didn’t sweat the small stuff, and where every decision was made with intention, not obligation.

My Favorite Clients? They Focused on the Real Stuff.

They didn’t panic over linen colors or signature drinks. They poured their hearts into writing deeply personal vows. They made time in their timeline to be alone—without cameras, without pressure—just to soak in the fact that they were married.

They curated a playlist that actually meant something. They danced with their friends like they were 17 again. They hugged their parents a little longer. And they hired someone (hi!) to make sure every second of that emotional richness could be remembered forever.

They didn’t skip the details entirely—they just didn’t let them control the narrative.

Why Intention Matters More Than Perfection

Weddings can spiral quickly into performance if we’re not careful. You start out excited to marry your person… and end up worrying if the signature cocktail will photograph well. Somewhere in the chaos of place settings and RSVPs, it’s easy to lose the why behind it all.

Intention brings you back.

When your choices reflect you—your story, your values, your love—the day naturally becomes more grounded and less overwhelming. It feels calm, not chaotic. It feels like coming home.

That’s what your guests remember. That’s what you will remember. Not which bakery made the cake. Not the number of flower stems in each centerpiece. But how you felt when you looked into your partner’s eyes before walking down the aisle.

A Photographer’s Perspective: Be Present. Be You.

I’ve worked with hundreds of couples, and I can tell you confidently: the ones who walked away glowing weren’t the ones who “pulled off” a flawless event. They were the ones who stayed true to themselves. Who remembered that their wedding is about their marriage, not the menu.

When you lead with presence, everything else follows. Your photos become timeless because they’re honest. Your film becomes a legacy because it’s rooted in real emotion—not just aesthetics.

So here’s your permission slip:

If you don’t care about elaborate florals, don’t order them.

If you want to spend 30 minutes in silence together after your ceremony, build it into your timeline.

If you want to wear a thrifted dress and dance barefoot with your dog on a rooftop, do that.

There’s no formula. Just feeling.

And that’s what lasts.

If you’re in the process of planning—or even just dreaming—I’d love to walk with you through the process. My team and I are here to help you create an experience that’s deeply personal, and to preserve those moments in a way that feels exactly like you.
